VEED alternative

A VEED alternative made for subtitles in Indian languages.

VEED is a full browser-based video editor and, unusually, it already shows prices in rupees to visitors from India. Subtitles are one feature among many, which shows in the free plan: 10 minutes of auto subtitles a month, exports at 720p with a watermark, and no way to download a subtitle file.

If your whole job is subtitles, Captionwale is designed for it: word-level timing, Indian scripts drawn correctly, Hinglish in Latin letters, and subtitle files on a cheaper plan.

What you get

Why creators use Captionwale for this

  • Subtitle files at a lower price

Every paid Captionwale plan includes SRT and VTT downloads, starting at ₹399 a month, or roughly ₹351 a month on yearly billing.

  • 2K exports, even when free

Free plan exports carry a watermark, but they are not downsized: they render at up to 2K, just like a paid export.

  • Gujarati, Kannada and Odia included

Every one of the 12 languages is written in its native script, including the ones that tools covering many languages tend to leave off their lists.

How it works

From upload to export

  1. Upload your video

An MP4 or MOV, from a computer or a phone.

  2. Get the transcript

Choose the language, then native script, romanised or English.

  3. Fix words and timing

Correct words and adjust timings on the word timeline.

  4. Download what you need

Pick a subtitled MP4, an SRT, a VTT, or take all three; they share one transcript.

Questions

Asked before trying it

Can I make subtitles on VEED for free?

On the free plan, VEED gives 10 minutes of auto subtitles a month; exports are 720p with a watermark, and subtitle files cannot be downloaded. Captionwale's free plan gives fewer transcription minutes, but its exports reach 2K.

Which one is the better video editor?

VEED, if you want a general-purpose editor; captions are a small part of what it does. Captionwale only edits captions, so the usual pattern is to cut elsewhere and caption here.

Does Captionwale charge in rupees as well?

Yes, and rupees are the only currency. Razorpay handles payment by UPI, card or netbanking, and auto-renewal can be switched off from your account in a single click.
