Subtitle any video
Put subtitles on your video without typing them out.
Subtitling by hand is slow: type a line, then drag it about until it matches the speech. Even a one-minute clip can swallow close to an hour, and the end still falls out of sync.
Here the typing and the timing are finished before you begin. Speech recognition writes down the words and stamps each one with the moment it is spoken. Your job is to read it once and correct the mistakes.
What you get
Why creators use Captionwale for this
No download, no install
It works in the browser on a desktop or a phone. The finished file is made on your own phone or computer, which means your clip never gets re-encoded on someone else's server.
Two kinds of subtitles, one transcript
Put the subtitles inside the picture so every app shows them, or take an SRT or VTT to attach in YouTube Studio or your editing software. Both come from the same corrected words.
A look that suits the video
Simple white lines when the video should stay calm, or one of 103 styles when it should stand out. You control the font, size, colour and position.
How it works
From upload to export
STEP 01
Upload the file
Vertical, square or widescreen, in MP4 or MOV.
STEP 02
Let it transcribe
Name the spoken language or keep auto-detect on. Every word comes back with a time attached.
STEP 03
One read-through
Click a word to fix it. Break up a line that runs too long; shift a word that comes in early.
STEP 04
Save it
Take the MP4 with subtitles burned in. Paid plans can also save an SRT or VTT.
Questions
Asked before trying it
Can I subtitle a video without paying?
Yes. Upload, transcribe, fix the words, then export. Free accounts get 2 minutes of transcription a month for clips up to 60 seconds each. What you export on the free plan includes a translucent Captionwale watermark.
Burned-in subtitles or a separate file?
Burn them in for Reels, Shorts, WhatsApp and anywhere a file cannot be attached, since the words become part of the picture. Use a separate SRT or VTT for YouTube and long videos, where viewers can hide subtitles and search engines can read them.
What is the longest clip I can upload?
Free accounts take clips up to 60 seconds; paid plans take up to 5 minutes per clip. For longer recordings, split them into parts and subtitle each one in turn.
Caption the clip you already have.
