FAQ
Questions, answered
What creators ask before their first export — accuracy, languages, privacy, plans and devices.
Accuracy and languages
How accurate is it on Hinglish?
Very good, never perfect — no transcription is. Slips cluster around names, brands, numbers and English words dropped into Hindi sentences, which is why you can edit every word before exporting.
Which languages are supported?
All 12: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and Indian English, plus auto-detect. Every language can be written in its own script, and all except Urdu and English can also come out in Roman letters or as an English translation.
Can it turn my video into English subtitles?
Yes, from Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. Pick English translation before you transcribe and the English opens in the editor like any other transcript, editable word by word. Urdu and English clips are written down as spoken.
Do the captions land exactly on each word?
Almost always. The main transcription service times each word itself. Clips that go through the second service — English translations always do — come back timed by phrase, and Captionwale estimates each word's place and snaps the edges to pauses it can hear. Any word that lands early or late can be dragged on the timeline.
Your video and privacy
Do my videos get uploaded anywhere?
Only the audio is sent, to our transcription providers, to produce the captions. The video is rendered on your own device, so it is never uploaded to be exported. Your audio and transcripts are not used to train anything.
Plans and paying
What does the free plan include?
2 minutes of transcription a month, clips up to 60 seconds, 32 caption styles and unlimited exports up to 2K with a small Captionwale badge. Dynamic templates export with Studio or Pro; SRT and VTT downloads come with any paid plan. No card needed.
Can I export without the watermark for free?
No — the badge is the one thing the free plan keeps back. Removing it from a single video is a one-time ₹99, and every paid plan exports without it.
Can I pay once instead of subscribing?
For one video, yes. Watermark removal is ₹99, and every export of that video stays clean for 24 hours from the first, so you can fix a caption and export again. It is a single UPI payment with no mandate and nothing that renews, and it adds no transcription minutes — buy it again for your next video, or take a plan to clean every export.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes, with one button. Monthly plans renew automatically unless you untick that at checkout: your bank asks you to approve the mandate once, warns you at least 24 hours before each payment, and you can stop it from your account page whenever you like. Stopping keeps everything you have paid for to the end of that period; only the next payment is cancelled. The one-time watermark removal never renews. Payments already made are final and are not returned.
Export, devices and limits
Which browsers can export video?
Browsers with built-in video encoding, like current Chrome and Edge, render the MP4 directly. Where that is missing, Captionwale records the video as it plays, so the export takes about as long as the clip. The export button tells you which applies before you start; a browser that can do neither is pointed to Chrome, Edge or Safari.
Which phone, OS and browser work best for editing?
Any recent phone or computer can edit; these are the smoothest. iPhone: iPhone 12 or newer on iOS 17+, in Safari. Android: 6 GB of RAM or more on Android 12+, in the latest Chrome. Computer: current Chrome or Edge on Windows or Mac, or Safari on a Mac — the fastest exports and the best choice for 4K or long clips. On a phone, 1080p clips feel best. Open captionwale.com in Safari or Chrome directly rather than inside Instagram or WhatsApp, keep some storage free, and keep the page on screen while it exports, because a phone pauses pages you switch away from. Adding Captionwale to your home screen opens the editor full screen, like an app.
Is there a limit on file size or video length?
Videos up to 2 GB open in the editor, in almost any format — MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, WMV, MTS and more; anything your browser cannot play is converted on your device first. Free transcribes clips up to 60 seconds, 2 minutes a month. Paid plans take clips up to 5 minutes, with Starter 90 minutes, Editor 3 hours, Studio 5 hours and Pro 8 hours a month. One export can run up to 5 minutes at up to 2K. If a clip is over a limit, the editor says so before transcribing, so no minutes are spent finding out.
