Subtitle editor

A subtitle editor where the words arrive already timed.

Auto subtitles are only a first draft. The real question is the time the second draft needs, and that is down to the editor: one click or five to fix a word, and whether a timing is visible before you touch it.

Captionwale's editor is designed for that second pass. Video and transcript play next to each other, every word is a separate item with its own timing, and none of your changes use transcription minutes again.

What you get

Why creators use Captionwale for this

  • Edit words, not paragraphs

Click any word and type over it. Every word has its own start and end, so changing one leaves the rest of the line's timing alone.

  • See the timing

Above the audio waveform, each word sits on a timeline. Pull an edge to move when it shows, and break the line at any point where the sentence pauses.

  • Emphasis and emoji, timed

Flag a keyword and the style treats it differently, with a colour or motion of its own. Emoji stickers have their own track, so you set the exact moment each one comes and goes.

How it works

From upload to export

  1. Transcribe a video

Bring in an MP4 or MOV and pick any of the 12 languages to transcribe it in.

  2. Follow along

Play the video and correct words as you hear them.

  3. Arrange the lines

Break long lines, set words per line, shift timings, mark keywords.

  4. Save your work

Save a captioned MP4; paid plans also download SRT and VTT.

Questions

Asked before trying it

Can I open an SRT file I already have?

No. The editor only works on transcripts it creates by listening to your video; it cannot load subtitle files. Upload the video and you will get a fresh transcript, timed word by word, to edit.

Do my edits use transcription minutes?

No. Minutes are used once, when the audio is transcribed. Corrections, new styles and repeat exports after that cost nothing.

Is there an undo?

Yes. You can undo changes one step at a time, and while you are signed in, your project saves automatically as you work.
